Milleniland

Milleniland is a theme park based around the arcade game theme, rollercoasters, food, and all the good stuff, you’d expect to find at an amusement park. But if you’re really into video games of the 90s and like to sift through thrift stores – Milleniland is the place of your dreams.

Anyone born in the 90s or earlier would feel right at home and engulfed by a deep sense of nostalgia reminding us of a simpler time, when we spent our days in front of a video console, riding our bikes, getting sunburned on the beach, and getting ourselves covered in mud playing outside.

The idea

I was pretty set on a logotype solution for this project early on and decided to go for a completely custom-made type design. I incorporated elements of a famous video game character (PacMan) as well as the shape of a jewel which is often used for collecting points or currency in video games to highlight what theme the amusement park is built around.

I looked at old magazines and the like to gather some inspiration for the design route I would take the shape and feel of the letters, but I refrained from making them look too heavily influenced by typefaces of the 90s. The goal was to create a logo that really speaks to everyone that loves the 90s and intrigues those, that are not as familiar with them.

Colors & Type

I looked at a lot of typefaces to see if there is one avaiable that ticked off enough boxes that I could then customize for the project, but none of the ones I found satisfied me. So I came up with a fully customized logotype that I could into the direction I envisioned for the project. I made sure that within the logotype can be found a a letter, or a combination of two letters, that can be used as a symbol – increasing the versatility of the design and thus its longevity, making sure it can be used for a wide range of applications,

The choice of color was quite easy. I wanted an interesting, highly contrasting color combination that reminds of the flashy effects and lights on arcade game machines – and if you think of the 90s you think of funky designs and bold, saturated colors that jump right at you. It was a no-brainer to incorporate those things into the choice of color.

This is a portfolio project and the brief was provided by Abi Connick on her Instagram page where she hosts the creative glow challenge. If you’re interested in buying this concept, feel free to contact me.
